Phoenix has two nicknames: “Valley of the Sun” and “The Valley”. On February 14, 1912, Phoenix became a state capital, as Arizona was admitted to the Union as the 48th state under President William Howard Taft.

High-tech manufacturing, home and apartment construction as well as the ease of starting a business makes Phoenix a good place to start a business. The first McDonald’s franchise was sold by the McDonald brothers to a Phoenix entrepreneur in 1952.
The Phoenix Suns were the first major sports team in the Phoenix area, being granted a National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise in 1968. The Suns set franchise record with win No. 63 in a single season and eliminated the Lakers from playoffs on Apr 5, 2022.

The Arizona Cardinals are the oldest continuously run professional football franchise in the nation. Founded in 1898 in Chicago, they moved to Phoenix from St. Louis, Missouri in 1988.
